Can Carla Bruni-Sarkozy turn France from Boresville to Party Country?

June 22, 2008

Oh man…I was reading this op-ed column on the New York Times website about the governments of other countries (I feel so cosmopolitan now, haha)…you can read it here (if the link isn’t down). It was interesting…the description of the new First Lady of France (and her ability to charm the French people despite, or maybe even because of some actions that would seriously shock and awe some of us Americans) reminded me so much of something else I had seen online quite a while back.

Naturally, I had to search for it. It felt like when something’s on the tip of your tongue…you have to figure it out or else your life won’t be complete…sometimes, you realize that things are actually quite futile for you. After all, if something’s on the tip of your tongue, there actually is no way to “almost” have it. You either have it…or you don’t. When you *get* it, you’ll have this awesome epiphany, but before then, you will get no scraps. So that tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon (which is actually universal and not just a peculiarity to any one language) is quite a cruel mental punishment.

ANYWAY, I was looking for a webcomic that I had read a long time ago…it was a historical webcomic (and really, how many of those are out there? — I thought rarity would help, but it seems that rarity has a nasty habit of obscuring things too) but for some reason, I didn’t have that many clues to find it again.

Fortunately, somehow I did find it! Hark! A Vagrant (I don’t know if that’s the official title) by Kate Beaton…and the comic I was reminded of? Well, I guess I’ll just post a link . Good ole Margaret Trudeau.

Y’know, reading comics is also like that tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon. There might be so much other than what’s on the surface that you just have no clue about. And even though you think you can appreciate everything, you just have no clue. I guess that’s why I should keep studying.
